The emergence of the artist
Edouard Desvarieux emerges as an artist like a random seed in a forest. His artistic inclination was hidden for a longtime. His talent was discovered by circumstances very late in life. Now, for him, painting is a recreational exercise, his main hobby and his main activity.
This late seduction and attachment to art show a noticeable artistic evolution for someone with a scientific background.
Edouard was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. In 1968, after the completion of his Baccalaureate studies, he left his native country and immigrated in the United States. He settled in the State of New York where in 1986, he obtained a Master degree in Chemical Engineering
In 2003, he retired from work, and had no interest in painting until his daughter Dr Marie Edouard Desvarieux, in search of a hobby for her father, gifted him with an easel and a set of acrylic colors paint, in the winter of 2008.
At first, he was not enthusiastic. But, on the insistence of his daughter, Edouard contacted the renowned artist Patrick Wah who showed him the materials needed for a beginner artist. With no formal education in Art, Edouard took advantage of the resources on hand i,e., the Internet, acquaintances and books. He used these resources to learn about colors, its Hue, its values, and its Saturation. Also acrylic painting techniques.
He produces his first painting in 2008, and continues under the eyes of some Haitian artists who have mastered the art like Patrick Wah, the Art teacher Michael Brudent, the well known Patrice Piard.
Edouard paints with Acrylic, on board and on canvas. His works include Still life, Animals, Abstract and landscape. He tends to adhere to the lines and proportions dictated by nature. He depicts the impression that arouse in him, objects and events from his surrounding or from memories of his early childhood.
There is great hope for valuable paintings coming from the palette of this new artist.
His first exhibition was in Queens Museum, August 2011.
